How to Humidify Your Instrument

How to Humidify Your Instrument

It is super important to keep your instrument humidified. The instrument being to dry can lead to costly repairs down the line. Using a humidifier in your case is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to protect your instrument. And it only takes three easy steps.

1. First, wet the humidifier so that it is damp but not completely soaked, if there are any make sure you follow any of the manufacturer’s instructions if they have any specific recommendations.

2. Simply put the humidifier in the case with your instrument, making sure that they do not touch each other. Your instrument should live in your case whenever you are not playing.

3. The humidifier needs to be rewet about once every two weeks, although this may slightly differ depending on where you live and the time of year.

The ideal humidity level for most string instruments is 44%. This can be monitored with small hygrometers that can be left in the case with your humidifier. You should think about humidifying your instrument as if it were a plant, without enough water it will start to dry up and die. Without the right level of humidity, your string instrument will suffer.
